Back at home after a long 4th of july family camping weekend. I was reminded over the week how much we can relate real life experiences to making money online.

No matter how well you prepare it seems within the first hour camping you realize you have forgotten something critical like say, cooking utensils. DOH.

You would think after years of performing this summer ritual one would have some sort of a “camping checklist” to make sure you have everything. Hmm, camping checklist…mental note.

While tooling around the camp ground over our stay I started picking up things I would see at almost every site. New camping “things” I had not seen in previous years. I was also reminded of the almost fanatical mindset of regular campers. Does not matter if they are tent campers, pop-up or RV folks. There are certain things they all bring with them to the camp ground.

In settling back in today I decided to fire up my Micro Niche Finder and see what I could find with “camping checklist”.

Wow, it seems camping checklist is searched on Google almost 15,000 times a month and there are only 62k sites that are optimizing for the term.

I wonder what kind of results one could get targeting a term like that if they were listed on the first page of Google search results for “camping checklist”?

Just wanted to share this because ideas for making money online are everywhere if you are trained to spot things and relate them to how and what people search for online. The cool thing is you never have to sell anything…..

How many millions of people want to learn how to sell online? You know there are millions upon millions of people on that “make money online” search every single day or the year. The problem is almost all of these people are trying to hit the money home run instead of looking at real opportunities that can yield a lifetime of consistent income.

I talk with many of the new members of Wealthy Affiliate on a daily basis I almost always see the frustration of people who want to make money right now. Having to back off of providing them sound advice to build there business and make them understand they are building a business and not just a “way to make some money”. This means it takes them longer to learn because you first have to teach them to be patient and keep working.

The internet does provide some very fast ways to start earning money but being able to build a process that you can repeat over and over to increase earnings is key. Many people burn out fast because they get some information that excites them so they go all out for a few days or weeks then begin to slow down or stop because they dont see the hundreds or thousands of dollars coming in right now.

Building a site that either sells something or forwards someone somewhere to buy something (affiliate marketing) is less than 10% of the process. Knowing how to take advantage of the massive amount of free resources to grow a business is the part that brings in the money.

There is a ton of information that teaches people how to drive traffic and make sales but there are very few that break it down to simple tasks anyone can perform and allow them to understand the process as they go along. Most new people at Wealthy Affiliate that ask me for help getting going in the right directions  are people who lack a solid plan of attack on a daily basis.

The best book I could recommend to anyone is One Week Marketing Plan.

One Week Marketing details probably the best free marketing plan in aformat that requires very little time per day to implement and makes it easy enough for anyone to follow.

If you are learning affiliate marketing, selling on eBay or even have a website (realtor, car lot, doctors office, etc.) that you want to bring in more visitors and potential customers, One Week Marketing is a very good starting point and a fantastic read.

Saving money or cutting costs in business or even in your personal life is always a good thing. Sure we all know the cases where it does not quite work out the same as we thought it would. You try a different brand of something to save a little money and the alternative turns out to be horrible. Not really worth the savings.

When I first started my online business I did not have money. When I say i did not have money I mean living with family and no car kinda no money. I had to program myself to use as many free resources as I could get my hands on to make money and run my business.

Of course like so many things you find online I had to download literally hundreds of free programs to find a handful that were even remotely decent. Today I make a very good living (www.onlinemoneytruth.com to get a look at some of my actual earnings live on video) yet I am still programmed to use free or low cost expenses in my business.

My total overhead cost for everything I do online might total $100 for the entire year. I have a few programs that help automate and stream line my business but they were one time costs. Certainly not anything you would need just starting out.

One of the things I needed when I first started building my online income was organizational tools. The majority of my career in operations I became accustomed to using Microsoft Excel to track project and various other tasks. I did not have Office Suite on my computer and obviously I did not have the money to buy it.

A friend that was building a business similar to mine recommended a product suite that works almost identical to MS Office.

I recommedn any trying to make money online or really organize anything in life check out www.openoffice.org and get OpenOffice completely free. You have every tool in Office but it is completely free. This is a case where cheap is an absolute bargain. 

Ok, unless you are a experienced and talented web designer then you can make some cash. For the rest of us making a website will NEVER make us any money. The money is in marketing a website.

You see so many programs these days that make it seem like they are providing the key to making tons of money online by providing you with a free website. There is a couple flaws with this thought process.

1. How effective do you think a website is going to be when thousands of other people have that same free website? It is not going to be very effective at all unless you are better at marketing your website than the thousands of others with the same cookie cutter site.
2. Let’s say you “buy into” a program that provides you with a free site that is optimized for selling guitar lessons. Now remember thousands of other people have the same website optimized to sell guitar lessons. Do you think Google is going to list all those duplicate sites in the search results together? NOPE, not a chance. Do a search for anything on Google and tell me how many times you run across a full first page of search results with the same exact site listed over and over again. I will put my money on NONE.

This does not mean that these types of cookie cutter sites cannot make money but you are going to have to go out and do something to drive traffic to your site. This means you will have to market your site to get people to visit it before you are going to make any money at all.

With sites like Squidoo, Hubpages & Weebly making it easy for anyone to create great looking websites without having any web design skills at all the selling point of getting a “free money making site” no longer exist. Remember there is no such thing as a money making website.

Marketing a website is what turns a website into a money maker. Unless of course you are Walmart or some large brand name like that and I doubt you would be here reading my little blog

This goes back to a post I wrote awhile back about what people type in that little search box when they go to Google, Yahoo, MSN or Joe Blow search engine.

The “Golden Egg” of making money online is knowing (not guessing) what people type in that search box when they are looking for something and how to apply that information to your site / blog as well as the marketing efforts you use to drive visitors to your website. Once you know this process and apply it through various techniques it is like having a internet ATM machine that prints money.

Don’t believe me? Go find any of the thousands of “businesses” out there that give you a free website preloaded with products that make you money when someone buys them. Sign up for free and get your free website. Now that you have your nice and shiny new free website DON’T DO ANYTHING..

30, 60 or 90 days from now come back and tell me how much money you have made..My bet your answer will be ZERO, as a matter of fact I know your answer will be ZERO. Do you know why this is?

No one knows how to find your site or that it even exists. There are billions of websites online these days and there is no chance at all that your website is going to magically show up where someone can find it in search results.

The money is not in creating sites. It is in learning how to market sites.

This holds true for any business. If you are a realtor in the Dallas, Texas area and you know the top searchs people looking to buy a home in Dallas use, how many more sales can you make if you are listed at the top of those search results?

Let’s put it another way..

How many sales are you losing because you don’t know what people are searching and you are NOT listed in those search results?

Morning all. It’s 8:30am here on the East Coast and I wanted to show you something I think you might find eye opening. It shows the 24 hour a day power of the internet.

While most people are just now starting to roll into their day job I just picked up my first cup of coffee and starting to review my accounts from overnight. I’ll spend about 4 hours later on today working on a few accounts then maybe off to the golf course or a couple projects around the house. Haven’t decide just yet. I know the wife wants me to get that rec. room painted at some point. lol

Here is what I woke up to on a couple of my accounts today and mind you I have done no work at all today….

Now that’s $151.85 before 5AM on a friday which may not seem like much. Let’s assume this is all I made every day and keep in mind my business runs 7 days a week online and not a 5 day work week like working for someone. $151.85 X 365 days in a year = $55,425.25 a year.

I have no idea what you earn at your job but I would bet you know more people making less than 55k a year than you do people making more than that amount. The folks making more than that amount are putting in how many hours a week to earn that paycheck? 50+ hours more than likely right?

Let’s take a quick look back at yesterday on these same 2 accounts….

That’s $288.14 for the day or an annual equivilant of $288.14 X 365 = $105,171.10 annual earnings if this is all I earned on a daily basis. Of course I have several other accounts that make about the same daily but the point is t show the possibilties and not brag about what I make online.

I do not:

• Handle any product to sell ( I help other people sell their stuff)
• Pack or ship anything ever.
• Deal with phone calls or emails from or to customers ever.
• Recruit some lame downline in a MLM scam (never, ever,ever, lol)

Of course I put the time in to learn how to build my businesses on a good foundation that keep pouring money in even when I am not working them but I really owe pretty much all of the credit to the training and community support at Wealthy Affiliate University.

If a couple bucks a month is not worth being able to make a huge change in your life like not having to work a full time job ever again, well then I am not sure what to tell you. I started out while working full time and put in about 15 minutes a day to begin building my online income without any experience and quite frankly absolutely clueless about what to do when I started.

There are lots of tools and sites I could recommend that teach you how to build some sort of online business and make going money sending you to them to be completely honest.

I recommend people check out Wealthy Affiliate for some very simple reasons.

• I know it to be the best and what they train works. I have been a member for 2 years and would never even think for a second of leaving. The continued material and resources are worth every penny.
• Complete beginners, advanced or experts online will find value in the training material and resources. Training scales with the individual and is at your pace.
• The community support alone is priceless. Being able to interface and share idea, concerns, issues and success with a huge group of people learning to build a business, growing and existing business or making tons of money online is like having my own team to brainstorm with on a daily basis.

So we all pretty much know about SEO and optimizing our sites for the best chance at good search engines listings. You simply cannot ignore the power of attracting site visitors through search results as the number one effective method. After all, Google makes billions of dollars a year off the fact that people search for things online.

Let’s assume you have your business site set up, no matter what type of business you are running there are tons of people online right now at Google searching for “that thing”. The key here is knowing what type when they search. Check this out..

I do not care what type of business you run or what you are promoting / selling online, when you know what the vast majority of people type in that box when looking for what you have to offer you will get site visitors and you will make more money. it’s a no brainer.

Let’s say you sell insurance in Phoenix, AZ. When that person types in “Insurance Phoenix, AZ” and hits search you want to be there on that first page of search results. Ask all the people you know who use Google how many times they click past the first page of search results before clicking on a site. My bet would be hardly anyone and maybe not a single person you know.

So we know we need to be listed on that first page. How do we get listed on that first page?

Well if you site is optimized properly that will give you a boost immediately with Google but now we need to make your site important with Google as well as get listed in multiple search phrases at the same time. We can achieve both with one process and it is 100% free.

Article Writing….

You are the expert in whatever it is you are doing online. Establishing yourself as the expert will cause more people to act on your recommendations. Writing articles is a way to highlight your knowledge of whatver it is you do online WITHOUT selling anything at all. 

Articles are meant to be “informational” style content between 250-500 words that give the reader information they are looking for and a resource(your site, blog) to get more information. So the links in your articles provide a way for people looking for related information “insurance Phoenix, AZ) to find your site.

Two other things articles do to increase website visitr traffic…

1. They increase the authority rating with Google becuse it is important enough to be linked from a related site…your article.
2. Allows you to get listed in other search results because you optimize each articles or a series of articles for a different search phrase so it get listed in a different search result at Google.

Let’s take a different look at this using our first example “Insurance Phoenix, AZ”

I am going to idenitfy 5 search phrase using the Google Keyword Tool that are highly related to whatever it is I am offering on my site that also show a some kind of volume of searchers daily. Let’s say 600 a month or 20 searches a day or more.

At Wealthy Affiliate one of the most important things we learn is identifying keyword search terms people use and comparing the strength of competing websites to be able to calculate our chances of gettin on page one of the search results.

The key is a steady stream of articles creating those authority back links that raise the listing of your main page in the search results where people can find you. You can also get multiple listings in individual search results by writing artiles optimized for the same keywords and this increases your chances of a site visit. having 2-3 listing on the first page of search results that you know people use every day makes sense you will get visitors right?

My entire business is based upon this model and it brings in a very nice annual income as well as being comepletely free.

Articles simply require the time to put together a reasonable informational piece of writing that leads a visitor to want more information from your site. It requires a little practice but I can promise you that 15 minutes of your day writing and submitting a couple articles wil make a tremendous impact of the long run. We all want long term secure income and this is the best free way to improve our chances.

You can set up a free acount and write your own articles as well as do keyword research on Google very easy and get started immediately making an impact on your websites flow of visitors. more visitors means more money for sure.

A couple tools i personally use for article marketing and the only reasons I are becuase my business is at a point where I can afford the investment and they are a single purchase cost to use forever. No annual licensing or anything like that.

I use Micro Niche Finder to perform my keyword research because it simply make the information provided easier to understand when it comes to how many searches each term gets daily and if it is even a keyword to bother with or not. Nothing I can say about it can do justice to how easy it makes my research. They have a nice series of videos on the program you can watch here

I also use Instant Article Wizard because when i first started I found it very time consuming to figure out articles and this program made it easy by basically writing them for me. Now I can crank out a dozen or so articles in about an hour, post them up and move on with my day. You can get more info on Instant Article Wizard here.

Both of these programs are instant download and can be set up in a couple minutes as well as being extremely easy to use.

I will give you a tip that i am only sharing with my blog readers. There is a new free article site called eLanceArticles.com or http://www.elancearticles.com that is very easy to sign up and use. A new article site is important because there are titles available for you to use that would not be available in older article directories. The importance of the article is if you can get a article title that is your optimized search phrase exactly and then use that search phrase about 1% of the total word of the article search engine listing becomes much easier.

Instant Article Wizard has an easy way to make sure you are optimized in each article.

There’s your freebie tip for the day on getting more web traffic for free. Try it even a little bit and I know you will notice the difference in your daily site visitors.

If affiliate marketing was a scam business do you think the globally recognized companies above would risk their reputations to be involved in a scam? I don’t think so either.

Basically the business involves partnering with companies like the ones above and thousands of smaller companies trying to build and grow their business online, helping to drive potential customers to ther business and earning money when those site visitors make a purchase. In the beginning of this post i said I do not sell anything and it is important that you understand this is true and it is the worst thing I can ever try to do in my business. The merchants I partner with are in the business of selling things, I am not.

As a long time member of the Wealthy Affiliate University I constantly preach to new members that, as affiliates, our job is to help people find the things they are looking for online and direct them to our merchant partners who are in the business of selling things. The more we help people find those things they are looking for online, the more money we make in our business. 

How do we find these people looking for things online and get them to go to our affiliate partner sites to make a purchase? Well that is a topic that requires a another complete post which I will be adding shortly. Stay tuned and we will get into more of the basics of the business but there are a couple things I want you to understand about this business that make it the best business to get started.

1. No customer service emails or phones calls…..ever
2. No housing, packing, shipping of products.
3. No selling.
4. Can be run from anywhere you have internet access.
5. Does not require any special computer or internet skills. NO you do not have to know how to build a website.
6. The lowest cost business you can start anywhere online or offline.
